it's like losing a friend... [04 Aug 2008|08:40pm]
My DJ gear has kicked the bucket. Remember? The gear that was stolen 3 years ago? I was spinning last night and got through about an hour until the decks decided that they didn't want to read CD's anymore. I fucked around with them (even taking them apart) to see if I could figure out what the hell was wrong with them, but couldn't figure anything out. How embarrassing to be the center of attention (it was a surprisingly good night) and then to have your equipment say "I quit". Fortunately, Jim had his Ipod with him so he played songs for the rest of the night.

My question is, since my gear is pretty old (American DJ DJ-1's), would it be more cost efficient to get them repaired or to just bite the bullet and get new decks? I'm going to have to get new decks eventually, but I really can't afford it now, so just wondering if anyone knows on average how much repairs run on DJ gear. This is the first set of decks that I purchased, so they hold some sentimental value to me.

This was the final straw for a really shitty week with not a lot of good news. Not good at all.

Top 10 CD's of 2007 [03 Jan 2008|11:51pm]
Every year I think about all the great music that was released and try to compile a list of the 10 best in my opinion. I invite everyone else to post their thoughts as well.

And now, in no particular order (except for the #1)

1) Foo Fighters: Echoes Silence Patience and Grace. A wonderfully personal and emotional effort from them. I have always appreciated their song writing, and Dave Grohl is truly a musician's musician. Am I losing goth points yet?

2) Assemblage 23: Meta.
3) Acumen Nation: Psycho The Rapist
4) DJ? Acucrack: Humanoids From the Deep
5) Between the Buried and Me: Colors
6) Soilwork: Sworn to a Great Divide
7) Combichrist: What The Fuck Is Wrong With You People? (sorry Calhoun)
8) Skinny Puppy: Mythmaker
9) Nine Inch Nails: Year Zero - Remixed
10) Dillinger Escape Plan: Ire Works

Biggest disappointment:
NIN - Year Zero: Not worth all the hype..but the remixes were awesome...

7) Who will you be with when 2007 ends?

21) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2007?
I'm not that much of a drinker, so I guess that would be a no.

22) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2007?
besides my $1000 a day crack habit, none at all.

23) How much money did you spend in 2007?
Way too much

birthday doings [25 Sep 2007|09:20pm]
[ mood | grateful ]

What better place to spend your birthday than at the DMV? It actually wasn't all that bad in hindsight...I just like to set up pity parties for myself. So I got everything taken care of (finally...only took 2 months of "I'll do it tomorrow"). So now I am an official card carrying member of North Carolina, go me.

After some very tasty food with Melissa, she ventured off to the Outback and I took in a movie. Checked out Resident Evil: Extinction. Pretty bad ass movie if you ask me. I wasn't a big fan of the 2nd one so I wasn't expecting too much, but this was actually really good in a cheesy gore filled video game movie way.

So now, I'm home. Pondering another year come and gone and partaking in my yearly tradition of listening to David Bowie at top volume. A funny thing just came to mind. If Melissa hadn't called me out of the blue one year ago today to wish me happy birthday, I wouldn't be here in Raleigh now...funny how things work out, just look at us now. Here's to another 364.

my moving experience commences. Get a load of this [28 Jul 2007|01:04am]
[ mood | enraged ]

Here's why I despise moving companies:

1) They charged me $200 more because I added like 7 boxes, fuckers

2) They originally told me that they would arrive today between 2 and 6...then 4 to 7....they showed up at 10fucking30. I WASTED MY ENTIRE DAY WAITING FOR THESE CREEPS

3) they take a look at my stuff, then say that some things need to be crated up, which is an extra $200. My stuff isn't worth that much so I said no thank you. They were really laying it on thick about how much protection crates will give. I politely told them to just put my shit on the truck.

4) They were going to charge me $5 for a roll of tape...and they wanted to use 10 of them. I have tape, but they wouldn't use it. They get to the truck only to find out that they forgot their tape. OK, not my fucking problem. They said that they were going back to the warehouse to get some, but they were still going to charge me. I then went to Walgreens to buy some tape...at $2 a roll. Fuckers

5) 3 of the 5 movers had been drinking, a lot. They smelled like a damn brewery.

My shit finally gets on the truck, and it comes time to pay them half of the balance. I go to use my card when they mention that it's an extra 3% to use a card.....nothing was told to me about that BS beforehand. Actually, none of the extra charges were mentioned when I was given the estimate. If I would have known that, I would have gone elsewhere. I am thoroughly disgusted and horribly dissatisfied with this company. Moving Out (based out of Tampa, FL)...don't use 'em.

And the kicker is, I purposely asked for them to come a few days before I leave so I can have the truck there when I arrive, or very soon afterwards. They said that they need up to 10 days to deliver.

I'm so going to register a complaint with this place. Very unprofessional, and very sneaky

I'm going to bed

my night..... [22 Jul 2007|01:26am]
Just got back in from an interesting evening. Kinda made me think about things and what I've become. First, Jeanne and I went out to Gene and Jude's for some hot dogs. This is BY FAR the only place in the country that I will stand in line a half hour for a hot dog. Holy crud folks, these are some damn good sausages. I've frequented this place ever since I was in high school, and I will certainly miss it.

Afterwards we went to a place called Durty Nellies to check out a cover band called Hairbangers Ball. This is a band that has been around since the late 80's so I was expecting a great show. Mediocre at best. The sound guy was obviously sleeping because I couldn't hear the vocals at all...but maybe that was a good thing. They did mainly 80's hair metal songs and dressed the part as well, and the crowd was so into them. So I guess it didn't matter if I could hear them, or if they played their songs well, because all I could hear was the crowd singing along. The lack of good sound and the oodles of frat boys spilling beer on me made me not enjoy myself. Have I turned into such a snob that if the band doesn't sound good, I don't have a good time? I don't drink so I can't use the excuse of "the band sounds better if you are drunk". I just expect quality, and I didn't get it tonight. Oh well, it beats sitting at home feeling stressed about life...

and I'm spent [19 Jul 2007|07:14pm]
I woke up around 7:30 to start the major packing. It's now 7PM and I'm about 90% packed. I just can't do anymore today. Tomorrow, I finish completely, but right now...it's time for a nap.

Raleigh update [11 Jul 2007|07:53pm]
still packing.....ugh. It seems like I have a lot more crap that I thought I did. I hope the moving company doesn't charge me more than they had quoted. I have some new furniture items from my Mom that I am adding, so fingers crossed that they don't charge more.

On a more serious and much more stressful note, there are no positions available for me at Hot Topic, so that means no transfer for me. It's definitely a major thing for to have everything set up at least a month prior to moving, but it's now 2 weeks before I leave and I have no source of income. I've been working hard at getting my resume plastered all over Monster and I've applied at the Notorious BBV again. That's definitely something that I don't want to do on a long term basis...that is unless they pay me a shit ton of money (I've applied for management). I know that things will work out, they always do, but it's very nerve racking to move halfway across the country having everything not completely set.

There's only one girl I'd do this for....

So, if anyone out there in LJ land knows of any jobs available in the Raleigh area, please let me know. Thanks

oh yeah, and I just saw the flyer for my first Dracula's Daughter.....

More than meets the eye [05 Jul 2007|01:40am]
So I just got out of the Transformers movie. You can definitely tell it's a Michael Bay film. If you're looking to see some rockin' special effects, look no further. If you're looking for a movie with some wonderful acting....look further. All in all, very entertaining!

P.S....3 weeks to Raleigh. So much to do still....

something witty here: [27 Jun 2007|08:54pm]
I hope to be updating on this thing a little more frequently as I will soon be seeing many of the people on my friends list more frequently in the next month or so.

Wow, I can't believe that a year and a half has gone by so quickly. I moved back "home" to Chicago in March of 06 seeking a rekindled life. Not much happened here in that time except for treading water. Hot Topic,...meh, just a job, but the biggest thing I have here. It wasn't long before Melissa came into my life, and here it is, one month before I move back to the Carolinas, and start my life with her. Some people here call me crazy, but I think it's the definite right thing for me. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather be with.

Lease on apartment in Raleigh - signed

Truck company to move my shit - booked for 7/27

Dracula's Daughter and DJing - I'll be there soon enough to bring it, and you all know I'll make a big noise.

Eccentrik - won't be DJing the event, but I'll be spinning for the meet and greet. YOU HAD BETTER FRIGGIN' BE THERE!!!!!!

Hot Topic - gears are in motion to get me a store in Raleigh...or somewhere, should know soon

Melissa - with me for life

It seems that all gears are in motion. One thing at a time I always say

Here's to my new home....to be continued

PS...Mr Calhoun.....call me

Culinary guilt: Italian Beef sandwiches from Portillos
Explain yourself: Simply the best sandwich I've ever had...and it will be missed

Literary guilt: Biographies on musicians, especially 80's metal, and pop culture
Explain yourself: I enjoy reading about how fucked up people's lives are, I guess it's a little therapeutic. And pop culture? Easy reading for the laundromat and airplanes. Keeps my attention.

Television guilt: American Idol
Explain yourself: Because I'm a dork

Movie guilt: Zombie movies
Explain yourself: Mindless blood and gore...BRING IT ON!!!!!

Musical guilt: Y'know, I'm gonna have to also go with the Rent Soundtrack
Explain yourself: It's just such a sad story with great music. I usually pop it in on my way to DJ an event. And it reminds me of driving to the Voltaire show in Charlotte with Melissa

Celebrity guilt: Rosario Dawson, and Kate Winslet
Explain yourself: Rosario just has a natural charm to her, and I've been a fan Kate Winslet ever since Titanic.

I tag: EVERYONE! BE HONEST- that's what makes it fun.

the countdown has begun.... [02 May 2007|10:17pm]
[ mood | dorky ]

to complete dorky bliss! In roughly 24 hours, I will be watching the midnight premier of Spiderman 3. I will most likely be hooting and hollering along with everyone else there, well because I have been a Spidey fan ever since I can remember. I contemplated wearing my Spidey shirt tomorrow, but I don't want to be "that guy", you know the guy who wears the band t-shirt of the band that he is watching perfom...I guess the same goes for movies. But you know, I don't care. This is my time to completely dork out, so I'll probably wear some sort of Spidey garb. Make fun of me all you want, but I already know I'm a geek. I'm also looking forward to the Spiderman birthday and Christmas with all the new awesome stuff out. God, am I five years old or what?

The countdown has also begun for the move to a different time zone. 3 more months to get through and I get to see my panda every day! I'm excited for this, lots of opportunity, lots of big things on the horizon (some of you already know about that), and lots of change for the better. It'll be a rough move, but it'll be worth it to see all my friends again. If it weren't for Melissa, I wouldn't have much to look forward to. I am so in love....

Oh yeah, and I finally got my submission in for Eccentrik. I'll be there anyway, but I'm hoping to get a slot. I'll have more details about my goings on soon. It's been far too long since I've updated this thing, hope all is well with you
